STREET HIS HALF PENNY

In "The Signs of Old Lombard Street" 1902, by F G Hilton Price, he states that No. 65, the Black Lion, stands on the site of the Salutation Tavern. The house was destroyed in 1748 and was then occupied by Messrs. Ironside and Belchier who were bankers, and known as the "Black Lion," the bankers being their since 1729. From "A New & Correct Plan of all the Houses destroyed and damaged by the Fire which begain Exchange-Alley, Cornioll, on Friday, March 25th 1748, Ironside and Belchier are in the 4th and 5th buildings, respectively, west of Birchin-Lane, and would appear, from the Horwood Map, to occupy the property at No. 66, not No. 65.

In "The Signs of Old Lombard Street" 1902, by F G Hilton Price, he states that No. 67 is The Plough, but then goes on to say the site of this house [the Plough] was the west corner of Exchange Alley, a small house on the left of the present [1902] entrance to No. 67.
